That’s a nice interior

A relatively a ffordable new sporty manual sedan in 2019. So everybody who’s decrying the loss of manuals  stop complaining and buy one.

If they’d fix the nose on that thing, it could be a good looking car.

In general, e nthusiast cars should look like enthusiast cars. On the balance, the driving experience is more important than appearance to me, but I still care about what my car looks like.

This sleeper is making me sleepy.

GLIs (and GTIs)  have always been pretty understated

It’s just about what you’d expect. I never really care for the hot Jetta, obviously that’s why I have a GTI, but hey more choices is a good thing.

I would’ve put money on them going DSG only, so yay for more manuals!

Yeah. Just saying, they could make it a little more appealing, maybe?

Guess there’s only so much they can do on the base they’re working with.

It looks great, looks a little muscular in the front without being offensive corporate face, understated round the rest of the body. Very practical daily driver with a little driving excitement for the driver when not commuting back and forth to work, can open the taps and stretch it’s legs.

Shame it’s not a liftback like it’s Skoda s ister, the Octavia.

So, is the GLI typically a GTI in sedan form? That interior is quite nice, and I like how the touchscreen isn’t jutting out from the middle of the center console like a periscope.

Yes. GTI sedan basically .

I think the performance-oriented design of it is just fine with the nicer wheels, red badging and trim, but that nose on the new Jetta just doesn’t sit well with me for some reason, when the rest of the car looks good.  100% opinion, of course.

I have a soft spot for Sk oda and the Octavia, especially the RS wagon.

I still think they’d sell more if they added the AWD system that they already have available.

Why get this when I could just have a proper GTI?

I can only tell you the reason I bought a GLI... The GTI is a better quality product assembled in the motherland, whereas the GLI is assembled in Mexico. Therefore build quality is lower. The GLI also is softer sprung and heavier. These factors combine to make the GLI less desirable, and very appealing to people like me who thrive on depreciation!

I bought my GLI for $6,500. If it were a GTI it would have been $10,000-$ 12,000.

New? I have no idea why you'd choose an L over a T.

I can overlook the hideous schnoz, but I can't forgive the non-plaidness of the seats. Give me plaid or give me death.

There is no reason given the hatch is more practical. But in this age of the sedanapocalypse it’s nice to get an alternative option, that too with a manual for those who want it.

It would be nice to have given the closest configuration you can get is the liftback/sportback Areton that will be $ 10K more expensive, or the Go lfR

If I was in the market for a new car, and it was cheaper than a new-ish GTI or Elantra GT turbo, then sure.

It probably looks better in person.

I agree, the interior is nice.
